Waxing FAQs
The Weeks Before:
Hair Length:
Let your hair grow out to approximately 1⁄4 to 1⁄2 an inch before the day of your appointment. This tends to be 2-3 weeks for most people post-shave.
Accutane/prescription acne treatments:
It’s highly recommended you do not receive waxing services due to the increased fragility of the skin. While we’d love to see you, it can take up to a year for the skin to normalize after these treatments, so please delay your waxing until then.
Retinol/AHAs:
Retinol, Peels, or AHA’s cause the upper layers of skin to shed more readily, and cause a localized risk of skin lifting during a waxing service. Please ensure you’ve not applied any to the area being waxed for 7- 14 days before coming in for any waxing. The stronger the % and preparation, the longer you should wait.
Peels/Laser/Cosmetic Procedures:
Please follow the advice of your treatment provider in timing waxing after any serious cosmetic procedure as they all differ in length of downtime.
Day of Prep:
A gentle shower and light scrub is all you need to prepare, and doesn’t need to be immediately beforehand. Skip your body lotion, gels, and oils the day of, on areas you intend to wax as they can all interfere with the process. Avoid sunbathing, steaming in a sauna, and working out the day of your appointment (before and after)
Loose and comfy clothing are recommended to prevent any rubbing afterwards.
24-48 Hours Post Wax:
Think cool, calm, clean. Avoid heat sources like hot showers, sunbathing, saunas, and intense exercise.
Avoid scrubbing or exfoliating, but do cleanse gently with your usual body wash or soap. Moisturize after each shower.
Weeks following:
Ensure you scrub/exfoliate the waxed areas gently and daily with a scrubbing shower cloth, gentle loofa, or dry brush.
Moisturize with a calming but lightweight moisturizer after each shower.
Both of these steps ensure ingrown hairs are prevented, keeping the skin soft and calm.
We proudly offer Bushbalm after-wax products, and Brian will recommend aftercare best suited to your individual needs.
Keeping Smooth:
For pain-free, long lasting waxes, we recommend coming in every 4-6 weeks, depending on the rate of your personal hair growth and the area being treated. After your 3rd appointment, your hair growth phases will begin to sync, and the smooth skin will last longer and removal process will become easier.
Don’t tweeze, shave, or trim intermittently as this changes the quality of the hair and affects the regrowth which may prevent the hair from being removed effectively in your next appointment.
Brian is available between appointments for consults, in person, email, or by phone, to answer questions and ensure you have a positive experience integrating waxing into your lifestyle.
